Can you trust the Watchtower? Conversation with two Jehovah's Witnesses

Image
Over the summer I approached two Jehovah’s Witnesses during their preaching work. They showed me a video which described the Bible as a road map for life and answers. I challenged them to consider that the road map they are provided by Watchtower is untrustworthy due to the false prophecies from their organization. Unfortunately, they were not able to see that they are representatives of the Watchtower and not of the Bible. At one point I gave told them a story about a pastor who made false claims to see their opinion on how the congregation should respond. They admitted that the people who attend the church of this false prophet should leave. But yet, they don’t apply their same reasoning to their own organization. Check it out: The reality is that Jehovah's Witnesses don’t "go off the Bible" and they don't think "all Bibles are the same". These are one liners they are trained to tell people who they're prospecting. There are four things we can le...

Truth: The Essential Element Missing in Modern Christian Worship Music

Image
Imagine for a minute that you walk into your boss’s office for a performance review. Your boss ends up listing a number of things about your work performance, work ethic, and character but these things are all negative and untrue. She continues to list attributes about yourself that are false. How would you feel? Would you be upset, confused? You certainly wouldn’t be receptive to what she had to say. No one likes to hear things about themselves that are false. So how is it any different with God and when his people sing worship songs with lyrical content about him that is false?   “For God is my witness, how I long for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus. And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and discernment so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ.” Philippians 1:9-10 Have you ever considered how knowledge and discernment stem from love? Many times Chr...

The Mother God Church strikes again! Dad, where is mom?

Image
The Mother God Church strikes again! Dad, where is mom? That was the question a member of the World Mission Society Church of God asked me while I was shopping for pens in Walmart. The World Mission Society Church of God takes God and limits him/her to the abilities a human being. (P.S. God is not a woman.#sorrynotsorry) In this video I provide a few helpful tips when dealing with this cult and others while walking you through an encounter I had with a woman from the WMSCOG. It’s important to remember that the goal of a good cult member is not to convince you of truth but to conform you to the cult image. Which is one of the reasons this woman would not share with me the secret hidden prophecies of Jesus Christ (South Korea Jesus, not New Testament Jesus). I texted her after our little encounter in Walmart and she refused to share with me the truth that would save my soul! As someone who believes in evangelizing the lost (New Testament style), I could not imagine meeting someone ...

Telephone Call with a Jehovah's Witness: Jesus was Born Again?

Image
The other day I called a Kingdom Hall in order to inquire about an odd statement I had read on the official Jehovah's Witness website [JW.ORG]. On one of their webpages titled, "What does it mean to be born again? What does the Bible say?" it stated that Jesus Christ was the first person to be born again. Now, I understand that Watchtower's definition of born again differs from the Biblical and historical definition. I also understand Watchtower teaches only 144,000 anointed believers can be born again. But, I wanted to ask whoever picked up the phone where in the Bible does it specifically state that Jesus was born again. After all, the Watchtower is supposedly Bible based ! Right? What ensued was an almost thirty minute conversation and why he needed to be born again. In conversations like this one, there are always many directions one can take the conversation and considering it was a phone call their is the possibility the person will just hang up on you. As I...

The Problem of Evil

Written 12/15 The world is filled with many variations of suffering and pain, from mere accidents like tripping and twisting one’s ankle to catastrophes such as earthquakes and tsunamis, from bank robberies to mass murders, horrible events occur every day.  Some have not been able to reconcile the existence of such things with the existence of an all powerful, good and loving God. They therefore have concluded that such a Being does not exist.  However, I would contend that the existence of evil and the ability to recognize it actually is evidence that a good God does exist and there is an ultimate standard of how things should be.             The Bible describes God’s nature as being purely eternally good, loving and merciful. Psalm 119:68 reads, “You are good and do good; teach me Your statutes” Psalm 107:1 says, “Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His loving-kindness is everlasting” and finally in Psa...

Thoughts on 'Preaching the Gospel' vs. 'Fighting Abortion'

Image
Opposing and exposing evil and consistently speaking on behalf of those who are dehumanized and destroyed in our culture is not contrary to the preaching of the Gospel. The Great Commission does not cancel out a Christian's responsibility to rescue those being led to the slaughter and God's command to love our neighbor. In fact the Great Commission includes teaching others God's commands, "teaching them to observe all that I commanded you." God has commanded us to love and re scue the orphan, weak and oppressed, to stand against evil, love mercy, establish justice, correct oppression, and bring justice to the fatherless. Preaching the Good News of Jesus Christ and rescuing my pre-born neighbor from death are not contrary but harmonious. A//∀ Read: Matthew 28:19-20, Proverbs 24:11-12; 31:8-9, Psalm 82:3; 94:16, Ephesians 4:15, 5:11, 2 Cor 5:11-21, Exodus 20:13, Isaiah 1, Matthew 5

180 Movie

Image
The first time I watched ‘180’ I got the chills. I was completely shocked how the people interviewed in the beginning of the video had not heard of Adolf Hitler. As George Santayana said, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." I believe education about the Holocaust should be mandatory for all children. Many people view the Holocaust as a horrific event and claim to value human life. These same people in their next breath will defend the killing of innocent babies in their mother's womb. The justifications for abortion are jaw dropping.  Most of the things people said in defense of abortion in 180 seemed more like rhetoric; "It's not a baby", “killing the baby is okay if it came from rape", "It's just a fetus”, “every situation is different", "abortion is okay if the baby has birth defects". If I followed the logic of these individuals, then it would be right for a mother to kill her child at tw...

Just Getting Some Chips

Image
The other night on my way home from church I decided to stop at the grocery store to pick up a few things. I had a shiny rhinestone pin on that read Jesus . As I was looking for my favorite chips, a lady looked at me and exclaimed, "Oh! I LOVE your pin"! I was pretty excited thinking she must be a strong Christian because hardly anyone has ever commented on any Christian clothing I have worn. They just read it and quickly look away. So, I got into a discussion with this lady, whom I'll call A. She told me where she lived and what she did for a living. I asked her how long she had been a Christian, she told me she used to attend a Catholic church and just recently started attending a Calvary Chapel in January. I asked her if she read her Bible every morning. She told me how her and her husband missed Wednesday night Bible Study. I clarified my question, "No, I meant do you have personal devotions in the morning?" She told me she did not and maybe she should...

Atheism, Logic and the Bible

Image
Yesterday Richard Dawkins came to San Diego to speak. Atheists and Agnostics young and old lined up with Bibles in hand (The God Delusion) to hear him. As I stood outside handing out tracts, I couldn't help but think how irrational they are. They promote reason and logic and reject organized religion. Yet, there they were gathering together to promote Atheism. Instead of addressing the issues that we brought up, they would verbally attack us: "Venom, uneducated Christians, crazy creationist, religious zealots"; these are all classic Ad Hominem attacks. They think that they are for logic, however they themselves commit logical fallacies left and right.  They think the argument is faith verse reason. It takes faith to believe in God and it is reasonable to reject His existence.  My question to the evolutionists was "How did life originate?" Most answers went like this, "There was the big bang...then primordial soap and then uhmm you know evolution!" Th...

There They Are!

Image
While I was at work today, I looked out the window and two Jehovah's Witness women were walking by. Last week I had talked to two other Jehovah's Witness young women in the same spot. I asked a question about Jesus' Resurrection. The young girl (Alex) did not know how to answer my question, I gave her my number and she said she would research it and get back to me. She hasn't so far. A week prior I asked the same question to a group of JW's, I gave one, my number and address and she said she would call and visit me. She hasn't so far either. It seems my past is catching up with me. A little over a year ago two Jehovah's Witnesses came by. Maricela and Zari. Maricela came every week for several months and always brought someone different with her. I knew Zari, she had worked at my cat's vet. Maricela grew up as a JW. I spent the next few months asking them questions. Until one day Maricela brought an older women. This woman Cindy, wouldn't let me ge...

One Minute Evangelism

Image
This Morning I was in line at a local grocery store. I always plan on giving the cashier a gospel tract. I noticed that the cashier was wearing a gold cross necklace. A thought came into my head, "She doesn't need a tract, she's wearing a cross." I told her that I liked her necklace, she said thank you. Then, I asked her "What does it mean?" She paused and said that she didn't know, it was a gift from her son. I handed her a gospel tract and told her that it would tell her what it stands for.  Just because someone wears a cross, does not mean that they are a Christian. I am glad I asked her what did the cross mean. I am hoping she will think about it today and read the tract I gave her. Hopefully, the Holy Spirit will open her eyes and understanding. Tracts are a great way to share your faith.  Witnessing to someone does not require a degree from Biola University. Go out today, hand out a tract, talk to someone, be a witness for Jesus Christ. ...

Genesis as True History?

Image
God’s Word has been under attack by Satan since the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3). As, Christians we know that God’s word is powerful (1 Thess 1:5), perfect (2 Tim 3:16-17) and unchanging (Psalm 119:89). But do we really believe and trust it? Psalm 11:3 reads “When the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” The Gospel is the most powerful message one can hear and receive. However, the message of the Gospel did not begin in the New Testament but the book of Genesis. Genesis is the foundation to the Gospel, as well as the rest of the Bible. In fact, the greatest Bible teacher, Jesus himself began in Genesis when He spoke with His disciples on the way to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-27). “Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in the Scriptures.” Luke 24:27 NASB This is very significant. Many Christians today have rejected Genesis 1-11 as recorded history. Some view it as mythology, allegorical, anything but lite...
