Imagine for a minute that you walk into your boss’s office for a performance review. Your boss ends up listing a number of things about your work performance, work ethic, and character but these things are all negative and untrue. She continues to list attributes about yourself that are false. How would you feel? Would you be upset, confused? You certainly wouldn’t be receptive to what she had to say. No one likes to hear things about themselves that are false. So how is it any different with God and when his people sing worship songs with lyrical content about him that is false?   “For God is my witness, how I long for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus. Written 12/15 The world is filled with many variations of suffering and pain, from mere accidents like tripping and twisting one’s ankle to catastrophes such as earthquakes and tsunamis, from bank robberies to mass murders, horrible events occur every day.  Some have not been able to reconcile the existence of such things with the existence of an all powerful, good and loving God. They therefore have concluded that such a Being does not exist.  However, I would contend that the existence of evil and the ability to recognize it actually is evidence that a good God does exist and there is an ultimate standard of how things should be.             The Bible describes God’s nature as being purely eternally good, loving and merciful. Chapter 2 of Defending Your Faith discusses four misconceptions that skeptics have concerning Christianity. Misconception 1: “Christianity must be proven scientifically; I’ll accept Christianity when you prove it with the scientific method.” Christianity cannot be proven scientifically. When someone tries to prove something using the scientific method, they do so by having a controlled environment, where an experiment is repeated over and over again and observations are recorded. The central claims to Christianity are the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We cannot take Jesus kill and bury him and see if he resurrects again and again. Historical events are unrepeatable. Therefore, we cannot prove historical events using the scientific method. One must use the legal historical method of proof to prove an historical event.
